Kaachakara Amman temple in Sivakasi

Sivakasi is located about 80 kms from the temple city, Madirai. The biggest and famous temples in Sivakasi are Mariamman temple, Bathirakali Amman and Sivan temple. However, there is a unique temple in Sivakasi called the Kachakara amman koil.

The presiding deity in this temple is Muppedari Amman. This temple was renovated recently , say about three years ago.
There are also two huge statues of a lady and man lying on the floor. There is a board in the side which requests the devotees not to touch the colourful statues. People offer prayers in this temple when the kids in their homes keep repeatedly falling sick because of fever(kaachal in Tamil means fever). Hence, this temple gets the name kaachakara amma koil.(Kovil/koil in Tamil means temple). You can also light ghee lamps here.

People cook rice, rasam and sunda vathal (all without salt) in mud utensils and offer to the Goddess. There is a provision in the temple itself to cook these food using firewood.
